Neuropathy

Could Regenerative Medicine Help Reduce the Long-Term Advancement of Neuropathy?

Neuropathy can begin with tingling or numbness and progress to burning pain, weakness, loss of function, falls, wounds, infection, and—in severe cases—amputation.

Unfortunately, current treatments for painful neuropathy are largely focused on managing symptoms. Research continues to search for approaches that may address some of the underlying biological processes contributing to nerve damage and dysfunction.

An Additional Option Is Emerging

One of the most interesting areas of research involves mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and the biological signals they release.

Rather than simply replacing damaged cells, MSCs appear to act as cellular communicators, releasing growth factors and extracellular vesicles that may influence inflammation, blood flow, nerve-cell survival, and nerve repair.

And this isn't simply theoretical.

A 2024 systematic review and meta-analysis of human studies evaluated seven controlled trials of stem-cell therapy for diabetic peripheral neuropathy. The researchers found significant improvements in motor and sensory nerve conduction, as well as measures of sensory function and clinical neuropathy severity. They concluded that the results show significant promise—while emphasizing that more research is needed to optimize protocols.

Another 2024 systematic review and meta-analysis of 23 preclinical studies found improvements in motor and sensory nerve conduction, nerve-fiber density, nerve blood flow, and factors involved in nerve growth and inflammation.

Researchers are also investigating extracellular vesicles and exosomes—tiny biological messengers released by cells. Reviews suggest they may have potential in diabetic and chemotherapy-induced neuropathy, while experimental research has demonstrated reductions in neuropathic pain and neuroinflammation through specific signaling pathways.

In other words, researchers aren't just asking whether neuropathy pain can be covered up. They're investigating whether the biological environment surrounding damaged nerves can actually be influenced. The research is promising, but it is still developing. It does not yet establish a guaranteed treatment or cure, and researchers are continuing to determine which products, delivery methods, and patients are most likely to benefit.

Our Medical Director has taken established regenerative approaches used in the field and developed a more precise delivery protocol specifically for neuropathy.

Why Might This Be Worth Exploring Now?

You may decide regenerative medicine isn't right for you. But if you are living with progressive pain, numbness, or loss of function, isn't it worth knowing what the research is showing before deciding?

We have heard too many patients say:

“If only I had known about this years ago.”

It is never too late to explore your options. But when neuropathy is progressing, learning about emerging possibilities before more function is lost may be worth your attention.
